#zukunftholzbau at the OMR Festival in Hamburg

21 May 2025

Hamburg - The OMR Festival is an international event that attracts up to 70,000 visitors to the Hamburg exhibition centre every year. Year after year, speakers and exhibitors discuss and actively shape the future of the digital and marketing industry.

The figures speak for themselves: over 800 speakers on five stages, 270 masterclasses where topics are explored in depth in small groups and 1000 exhibitors at the Expo leave an impression.

Two days full programme: 800 speakers on five stages

Artificial intelligence (AI) was the dominant theme. There was hardly a speaker who didn't have an opinion on the subject. In this context, it was exciting to see ChatGPT's Head of Product Nick Turley himself on stage and, as a native German, reveal some insider information in an interview: in April alone, the number of chatGPT users in Germany rose by 20 per cent. Tech investor Philipp Klöckner adds appropriately in his presentation: "AI is forcing us to become better."

What can the skilled trades take away?

One thing is clear: even large companies only cook with water and cannot find new customers at the touch of a button. Activities are actually shifting back to the analogue world - but in combination with digital tools: When people meet up for sporting activities, for example, this is often organised via apps or social media. It can be worthwhile to advertise here!

In general, it is clear that people tend to hold back on social media when it comes to expressing their opinions. However, if companies and businesses build up real communities and enter into direct dialogue with them, the willingness to communicate increases many times over. Invite digital followers to your company and turn them into customers!

Is AI taking our work away? Certainly not! But AI can support processes and workflows in the office and make work easier. Especially for social media and marketing and the writing of articles, inspiration can be found here, because many people are put off by looking at white paper. Adapting a suggested text is much easier here.

The topic of robotics also found its place in the presentations. But here, too, timber construction has been at the forefront of thought and technology for years: a joinery system is also "just" a robot that supports us and carries out precise work. Will robots be swinging a hammer for us in a few years' time? Maybe in a workshop, but on the roof?

Using new technologies for a modern appearance

Companies that use drones for roof inspection or surveying, that are open to exoskeletons and the use of smartphones or tablets on the construction site and that don't use a metre rule on the construction site again after planning with CAD, but instead question their work preparation process with regard to the use of digital surveying techniques such as laser scanning, photogrammetry and tachymetry - these companies are already positioning themselves in a modern and attractive way for new customers, employees and trainees.

This also demonstrates the professional handling of orders, especially to younger customers.

Suitable seminars

Of course, the training centre also provides support in these areas: be it through CAD courses, digital measurement, drone driving licences or social media in timber construction.
