In its 50th anniversary year, LIGNA 2025 once again presented itself as the leading international trade fair for the woodworking and wood processing industry - with over 1,400 exhibitors, 78,000 trade visitors and a forward-looking focus on digitalisation, sustainability and networked construction.
In the midst of this highly innovative environment, the timber construction training centre and Biberach University of Applied Sciences presented themselves with a joint stand - and focused specifically on the educational factor as a future topic for the industry.
At the centre of the trade fair presentation was the "Biberach Model" trial study model, which met with great interest from trade visitors from Germany and abroad. The model, which combines training as a carpenter with a master craftsman qualification and a degree in engineering, struck a chord with the industry, which is increasingly focussing on sound management skills and practice-oriented training.
The comprehensive range of training courses offered by the Timber Construction Training Centre, from international specialist courses to modern seminar facilities in the in-house conference hotel, also met with a great response. The team also used LIGNA specifically to network with training companies, industry partners and other educational institutions.
Biberach University of Applied Sciences also used the trade fair to present its wide range of degree programmes in the fields of construction, timber construction and project management. In the context of sustainable construction, digital planning processes (BIM) and interdisciplinary collaboration in particular, current research and teaching content was linked to the pressing issues of the future in the industry.
The new joint seminar "Biberacher Holzbau-Konstrukteur" (Biberach Timber Construction Designer), which is offered in cooperation between the Bildungszentrum Holzbau and Biberach University of Applied Sciences, was also presented for the first time at the trade fair.
The aim of the seminar is to qualify designers who have previously worked primarily in single-family house construction and would now like to develop their skills in the area of multi-storey timber construction. The focus is on topics such as sound insulation and fire protection, logistics, legal framework conditions, planning processes and construction processes.
The start of the new further training format is planned for October 2025.

The trade fair appearance was a complete success - both in terms of visibility and content relevance. With practical offers, the Bildungszentrum Holzbau and Biberach University of Applied Sciences once again demonstrated how education, trade and university can shape the future together.
Especially in the midst of a trade fair that once again set standards with over 900 world firsts and strong international participation, the stand from Biberach provided an important impetus for the educational and industry dialogue of the future.
