Networking and exchange: Vocational school teachers and the timber construction training centre
All vocational schools from our catchment area were invited again this year and 30 participants from the 19 schools accepted the invitation. Teachers from theory and workshop, as well as representatives from the training centre, met online to discuss current topics. In contrast to previous years, this year's meeting was not organised by the timber construction training centre alone, but by a coordination group, which was supplemented by representatives from the vocational schools.
Reorganisation of training as a central topic
All vocational schools from our catchment area were invited again this year and 30 participants from the 19 schools accepted this invitation.
Teachers from theory and workshop, as well as representatives from the training centre, met online to discuss current topics.
In contrast to previous years, this year's meeting was not organised by the timber construction training centre alone, but by a coordination group, which was also supplemented by representatives from the vocational schools.
The reorganisation of training is and remains the topic of the moment. The amendment, which updates the training regulations in place since 1999 and comes into force on 1 August 2026, must now be implemented. This affects teaching at vocational schools just as much as inter-company training at the training centre.
Stretched journeyman's examination brings opportunities and risks
Another key topic was the reorganisation of the journeyman's examination. Both the creation of the examination tasks and the actual implementation have not yet been clarified in every detail. However, one thing is certain: the introduction of the extended journeyman's examination means that the previous intermediate examination will become significantly more important and will be included in the overall result of the journeyman's examination as a percentage in future. The dialogue has once again shown how important this meeting is for everyone involved.
(Value) communication
It is well known that everyone communicates, whether verbally or non-verbally. The fact that certain values are attributed to us carpenters in our dress may be recognised by older people, but not by every trainee. Simon Häcker from the Steinbeisschule Stuttgart takes up precisely this communication of values and reports on his experiences from teaching first-year apprentices. The participants began the discussion by asking in which subjects these values are actually taught and in which they are not.
Digital aids across learning venues
The fact that digital tools also have their rightful place in training and are becoming increasingly important is the central theme of the #zukunftholzbau project team led by Jochen Ströhle. In addition to the well-known online learning sequences, he presented the kursm.app, which has been available to our trainees in Biberach as a personal skills repository since this training year. New features in the coming months will be the integration of CAD models in VR or AR, as well as the possibility of using the digital Primo to supplement analogue teaching.
